don't use captcha, instead push for manageable (small-ish) instances with regulated registration, as in, mandatory reason box, and if that is too much for you, maybe just don't host a public instance

@jeder FWIW we have captcha enabled, but it’s the old easy kind. still works wonders on most of bots

… but what has saved us in the long run is manually vibe-checking everyone through a registration reason. this fixes SO MANY problems

@jeder eventually i plan to open awawa.cat for registrations but yeah, vibe checks will be the way. Plays nice with smol web movement

Either way probably will stay as a single user instance just with registrations open ​:blobcat_dunno:​
