i think they should do more funny and just allow making revisions in the form of adding another express to stuff like pcie and nvme

apparently im too late
the noctua 4080 is a 5 slot card, so about 10cm high and a pcie x16 is somewhere in the same region

@soph give it a year or two and snag it on the used market spinny_fox

some people really like buying flagships GPUs on release for some reason

@jeder @soph the chronic upgraders just plop old GPUs on craigslist/kleinanzeigen/whatever

on there it's a race to the bottom

@soph @jeder most people would have absolutely no use for a 3090, yeah

the 3070 is what I'd recommend going for nowadays, price hovers at around 350€ there (with some as low as 250€)

@jeder @privateger @soph is there any benefit in going to a higher generation gpu than ampere (the architecture the 3090 is based on)

@puppygirlhornypost2 @jeder @soph
Ada Lovelace added frame-generation, Blackwell enhances that framegen
Blackwell is a lot more space efficient, so it likely uses less power
Starting with Ada there's also an NVENC AV1 module

Ada Lovelace is also quite a bit faster than Ampere spinny_cat
Certainly not worth the money to do an upgrade though imo

@privateger @soph @puppygirlhornypost2 i really could not be arsed to be hyped about frame gen, like, i am eyeing either arc or whatever amd is gonna spit out if its gonna be good at all
and then maybe ampere

@privateger @soph @puppygirlhornypost2 for me it's just: can it edit 24mpx raws with reasonably real time preview and can it game at 1600 mid/1200 high
